Nisga'a Educational Opportunities

The purpose of Education Administrator's position is to manage the educational program of the Nisga'a Government. The position continues to actively pursue ways of improving the educational opportunities available to all Nisga'a people.

To assist the membership of Laxgalts’ap in embracing the principles of:

  • academic freedom and responsibility
  • maintaining individual identity and cultural values
  • ensuring that access of quality education responds to our diverse community, leadership, and self government needs.

Duties of the Education Administrator include:

  • developing the educational budget for the year
  • analyzing & interpreting relevant government policies
  • identifying funding opportunities
  • counseling with students in the development of educational plans
  • liaison with school district, nursery/daycare, home school coordinator, and college support workers
  • maintain clerical records on student files and records
  • act as representative on WWN advisory board, First Nations Council and NWCC

Everyone was very open and giving, sharing their stories with me – their trials and their triumphs as well as showing me their carvings and art.
