Learning is a way of life
The Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government education program is based on the belief that education can help our people realize their individual potential and contribute more fully to the community and to society at large. Our goal is to ensure all community members have access to quality education.
The Education Department’s main focus is enabling post-secondary education through funding, information, and counselling. We also provide practical support for students in the K-to-12 school system.

Counselling
We provide counselling to local students to help them in budgeting, researching the job market, and planning their career. Also, we help students find and apply for grants and scholarships.
With the right support to overcome barriers, education can be one of the most exciting times in a young person’s life. However, choosing a career path and completing the relevant education is a complex undertaking. We offer information and advice for each step of the way.

School Supplies Program for K-12
For over 20 years, the Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government has been buying bulk school supplies to distribute to local students at the beginning of the school year. This program ensures that every student in the Lax̱g̱alts’ap community from nursery through grade 12 has the school supplies they need for the year. As well, we offer an allowance for indoor shoes and a backpack.
All nursery-grade 12 students who attend schools in the Nisga’a communities are eligible. To apply, visit our office or fill out the Lax̱g̱alts’ap Student Allowance and School Supplies Application and email the form to Phyllis Clark (Phyllis.clark@laxgaltsap.ca).
Please note that all sections of application should be completed, and if incomplete, this will delay the processing of the application.

- Wellness
- Other topics on an as-needed basis
