Housing Services
The Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government is committed to providing affordable, safe, and comfortable housing for our community members. To achieve this goal, our Housing Department builds and maintains rental housing and runs granting programs supporting home ownership.
Housing is essential for health, economic stability, and overall well-being. A stable and secure housing environment fosters a sense of belonging, ensuring that families have a safe place to gather and strengthen community ties, which are vital aspects of Nisga’a culture.
By investing in housing, the Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government creates jobs, stimulates local businesses, and attracts investment, all of which contribute to the broader goal of self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.
All housing programs are governed by the Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government Housing Policy, which ensures transparency, consistency, and fairness for all.
Fee-simple private ownership is administered by Nisga’a Lisims Government’s Land Title Office, with collaboration from the LVG Housing Department. For more information, go to the Land Title Office website.
Rental Housing
Lax̱g̱alts’ap Village Government owns and manages over 60 units of rental housing, and that number is growing. Funding programs created in 2001/02 set a goal to create 50 new units by 2027 to ensure a total of 80 units. Construction is ongoing, with new units becoming available steadily.
Grant Programs
New Build Grant Program
The New Build Grant Program supports individuals who have never owned a home and are looking to construct. The grant covers a downpayment, thus helping overcome barriers to financing.
Home Renovation Grant Program
The Home Renovation Grant Program covers renovation costs for private homeowners.
